SpinMaD

JST Aspire project kick-off meeting on
“Research network on spintronic materials and
devices for the sustainable society (SpinMaD)”

Description

This collaborative research aims to develop fundamental processes and technologies for new spintronic materials and devices to achieve highly efficient energy conversion for the realization of the sustainable society. Specifically, the Japanese research team will investigate new materials and devices, namely in vertical configurations, based on their expertise on systematic study using available material database and machine learning. The European research team will characterize those materials and fabricate in-plane devices based on their advantages for standardization and regional collaborations. Such joint efforts can solve one of the key obstacles in spintronics to increase the signals in (anti-)ferromagnetic devices and the stability of topological entities for operations at room temperature and beyond towards extreme conditions. We plan to expand our long-standing collaborations between the principal investigators on both sides and will organize double-degree and virtual campus programs and intense exchanges. Through the proposed collaborative and complementary research, and promotion of researcher mobility, this research project is expected to strengthen the position of the Japanese research on spintronics and to continue to lead the field by fostering next-generation researchers. By the end of this Aspire project, we will establish a hub in spintronics to connect major Japanese research groups to the world, starting with those in Europe.
